Patriot League Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's basketball sophomore Kerry Kinek earned a spot on the All-Patriot League third team while freshman Kayla Burton was named to the All-Rookie team, as the league announced its major awards and All-League teams Tuesday morning.
Kinek finished the season averaging 16.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, good for third and fifth-best in the league, respectively. The sophomore scored in double-digits in 27 of the season's 29 games, including nine 20-plus point efforts, while sinking a league-best 194 field goals. The Whitehall, Pa. native recorded five double-doubles this season, three of which came in the last four games. Kinek ranked second on the Mountain Hawk squad in blocks, recording 25 throughout the season. She was named Patriot League Player of the Week on two occasions. This is the third postseason All-League honor of Kinek's career, as she was named to the All-League first team and All-Rookie squad a season ago.
Burton was named to the league's All-Rookie team after averaging 5.6 points per game. The freshman scored in double-digits six times this season, led by a 15-point effort on Jan. 2 against Colgate. The Newton, Mass. native led the Mountain Hawks with 39 made three-pointers, while her 70 assists ranked second. Burton stepped into the starting point guard role and immediately made her mark after scoring 11 points in her collegiate debut at Niagara to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Week recognition.
Kinek, Burton and the Mountain Hawks open postseason play Tuesday at 7 p.m. as Lehigh hosts Colgate in the opening round of the Patriot League Tournament. Tickets can be purchased by calling 610-7LU-GAME or by visiting LehighTickets.com.
