BETHLEHEM, Pa. - One day after garnering All-Patriot League laurels for the second time in her career, Lehigh field hockey senior Steph Fratoni has earned Academic All-League honors for a second straight year, as announced on Wednesday. Fratoni owns a strong 3.68 cumulative grade point average while excelling on the field as a three-time team captain.
Â
Fratoni is one of 11 players named to the Academic All-Patriot League team as American University's Grace Wilson was named the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In total, seven of the 11 Academic All-League members were also named to the All-League team.
Â
In the classroom, Fratoni has been named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad while earning a spot on the Dean's List (for a semester GPA over 3.6) in five of six semesters so far. Fratoni has made the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll every season and has also garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award.
Â
Fratoni has served as a team captain since her sophomore year. A second team All-Patriot League honoree as a freshman and senior, she finished her decorated career with three goals and 10 assists, including one goal and one assist in 2014. Fratoni has played several positions in her Lehigh tenure, moving to center back as a senior. One highlight came after a weekend sweep of Holy Cross and Sacred Heart when Fratoni was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, marking her second-career weekly award along with Rookie of the Week in 2011.
Â
The Mountain Hawks' 2014 season was highlighted by a 4-1 stretch at the end of September which featured wins over Towson, Georgetown, Holy Cross and Sacred Heart. The team's five leading scorers all return next season, as well as sophomore Julia Ward in goal. Sophomore Tofig finished the season among the league's leaders with eight goals to earn second team All-Patriot League recognition.
