Patriot League Release

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh volleyball senior Jade Van Streepen and sophomore Mariah Brantley have both been named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.

Van Streepen repeats as an Academic All-League member after earning the honor a season ago. The senior holds an outstanding 3.88 GPA in her Environmental Engineering major. In addition to being a 2013 Academic All-League honoree, Van Streepen is also a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and has landed on Dean's List (3.6 GPA or greater) in all of her semesters at Lehigh, including a perfect 4.0 term in Spring 2014.

The academic honor comes after Van Streepen was named first team All-Patriot League Tuesday. The outside hitter led Lehigh with 285 kills this season and her 3.00 kills per set average ranks fifth in the Patriot League. She finished the season with 266 digs, good for an average of 2.8 per set, and recorded six double-doubles throughout the season. The Austin, Texas native hit .253 in Patriot League play with an average of 3.13 spikes per set.

Brantley has tallied an impressive 3.80 GPA as a Bioengineering major. The sophomore libero has landed on Dean's List for both of her semesters at Lehigh and was a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2013.

Brantley was named the Patriot League Libero of the Year Tuesday following her outstanding sophomore campaign. The libero set the Lehigh single-season digs record on Nov. 1 against Navy as she recorded her 499th dig of the season to surpass the previous record of 488 that was set in 1987 by Bonnie Bejsovec. Brantley finished the regular season with 560 digs, which currently ranks fourth on the Patriot League's all-time single-season digs leaderboard. Her 5.33 digs per set average ranks 16th-best in all of Division I. In addition to her outstanding defense, Brantley led the Mountain Hawks with 31 service aces and also contributed 113 assists.

Lehigh was one of three schools to place two student-athletes on the Academic All-League team. American's Monika Smidova repeats as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year after earning Player and Setter of the Year honors Tuesday.

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have played in at least 50 percent of her team's matches. Freshmen and students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

Lehigh earned the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will face No. 3 Navy in the semifinals Saturday at 4 p.m., while top-seeded American will take on No. 4 Army. The winners of the semifinal matches will advance to Sunday's championship match, which is set for 1 p.m. All matches can be viewed for free on the Patriot League Network.
