Ruschel Earns Academic All-Patriot League Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Amanda Ruschel of the Lehigh women's cross country team has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, it was announced Monday. Student-athletes are selected to the academic all-league team based on their academic achievements with a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher, in addition to their athletic performance through out the season.
Ruschel finished this year's Patriot League Championship in 25th place, running a personal best time of 21:49.10. The sophomore also holds a cumulative GPA of 3.88, majoring in materials science and engineering. Ruschel's hard work in the classroom has landed her on the Dean's List for both of her previous semesters at Lehigh, including a perfect 4.0 term in the Fall of 2013, which was her first semester at the University. Ruschel was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll following her freshman season.
Previously this season, Ruschel finished in eighth place at the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet, and was Lehigh's third finisher at the Roy Griak Invitational. Ruschel went on to finish 165th as Lehigh's third finisher at the 41st Annual Paul Short Run, where she ran a personal best time of 22:19. At the Princeton Invitational, Lehigh's last meet before the league championships, Ruschel was Lehigh's fourth finisher in 93rd place, helping the Mountain Hawks capture a strong eighth place team finish out of 35 teams.
Ruschel is also a member of the Lehigh track and field team, and has seen success on the track as well. At the 2014 indoor Patriot League Championships, Ruschel earned first team All-League honors, being a member of the winning 4x800 relay. She also was a member of the second place 4x800 relay team in the 2014 outdoor Patriot League Championships, earning second team All-League honors.
Ruschel and the Mountain Hawks will now prepare to run at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Friday at Penn State, beginning at 12 p.m.
