Patriot League Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a pair of straight-set wins over Colgate and at Bucknell this weekend, Lehigh volleyball senior Jade Van Streepen was named the Patriot League Player of the Week while freshman Whitney Krantz earned Rookie of the Week recognition, the league announced Monday.
The two Mountain Hawks combined to lead Lehigh to its 12th and 13th Patriot League wins of the season as the Mountain Hawks set a new program record for league wins. The victories secured Lehigh's 20th win of the season and the Mountain Hawks have now posted back-to-back 20-plus win seasons for just the second time in program history. The only other time the feat was accomplished was with a pair of 22-win campaigns in 1981 and 1982.
Van Streepen recorded double-digit kills in both of Lehigh's straight-set wins this weekend. She tallied 14 kills without making a single error against Colgate Friday to accumulate an outstanding .452 hitting percentage against the then third-place Raiders. The Austin, Texas native also contributed eight digs, three assists and an ace against Colgate. Van Streepen continued her strong performance Saturday at Bucknell as the Mountain Hawks handed the Bison their first straight-set league loss at home. She tallied 12 kills, a .267 hitting percentage, three blocks, five digs and a pair of assists against the Bison. This is the first Player of the Week award of Van Streepen's career and the third honor for the Mountain Hawks this season.
Krantz recorded a career-high 14 kills and a lights-out .591 hitting percentage to help Lehigh to its 3-0 win over Colgate Friday. The freshman also registered seven digs against the Raiders and chipped in a kill at Bucknell Saturday. This is the first Rookie of the Week award of Krantz' career.
Van Streepen, Krantz and the Mountain Hawks return to action Saturday at 4 p.m. in the final match of the regular season. Van Streepen and fellow senior Kaylynn Genemaras will be honored on Senior Day as Lehigh hosts first-place American inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.
