BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With Lehigh students returning to campus this weekend and classes for the fall semester set to begin Monday, head coach Judy Dwyer welcomes freshman Elizabeth McGarrigle from Wernersville, Pa. to a Lehigh program that captured the inaugural Patriot League women's golf championship last April.
McGarrigle comes to Lehigh from Conrad Weiser High School, where she captured Berks Country and PIAA District 3 titles in 2012. She also finished sixth at the PIAA regional tournament and placed 12th at the PIAA State Championship last year. On the junior circuit, McGarrigle has won an AJCA qualifier and was the 2012 Girls Champion of the Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour.
Academically, McGarrigle ranked seventh in her graduating class and was voted best student by the Conrad Weiser mathematics department. She was also nominated for Berks Best in both math and foreign language. McGarrigle is enrolled in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science.
The addition of McGarrigle gives the Mountain Hawks a roster of eight players for the 2013-14 season, Dwyer's second as head coach. The Mountain Hawks lost three players to graduation but return a pair of All-Patriot League performers in senior Crystal Lee and junior Kelly Moylan, and the 2013 Patriot League Rookie of the Year in sophomore Nicole Feierberg.
Lehigh will open its fall season at the Bucknell Invitational, September 7-8 in Lewisburg, Pa. Looking ahead to the spring, the Mountain Hawks will host the Patriot League Championship in April at Saucon Valley Country Club.
