BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Rising juniors Patrick Corbett and Dan Taylor are enjoying tremendous success in Canadian indoor summer leagues, each among their respective league leaders in points as their teams eye the postseason. Corbett stands 19th in the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League in scoring to lead Burlington to a 14-4-1 record, good for second in the standings. Meanwhile, Taylor leads the Alberta Junior A Box Lacrosse League in points as the Mountaineers are eying their league championship for a second straight summer.
Corbett has posted 60 points behind 23 goals and 37 assists. He has also impressed on faceoffs, winning 90-of-143. The OLA features top-flight competition as the #1 and 2 scorers in the league are Dhane Smith and Johnny Powless, professional indoor players in the National Lacrosse League. Smith, who plays for Buffalo, has posted 107 points, while Powless, a Rochester Knighthawk, has 104.
Taylor owns a league-leading 67 points in just 12 games behind 35 goals and 32 assists. He's led the Mounties to first place following the regular season with an 11-3 record. The talent in the league is impressive. Second in the league in scoring, a full 17 points behind, is Holden Cattoni out of Johns Hopkins and Cam Gardner of Bellarmine.
Both Corbett and Taylor hope to lead their teams through their league playoffs and to the Minto Cup, a four-team playoff tournament featuring the top junior men's lacrosse teams in Canada. Should they advance, the Minto Cup is set for August 17-26 in British Columbia.
Taylor and Corbett are Lehigh's leading returning scorers. Taylor had 50 points this past season behind 29 goals and 21 assists while Corbett, a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree, had 26 via 23 goals and three assists. They'll lead an offense which loses Tewaaraton Award candidate and the Patriot League's leading scorer David DiMaria, along with Dante Fantoni who had 47 points in 2012 to eclipse 40 each of his four collegiate seasons.
