Lehigh rowing completes successful weekend at Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, N.J. - Four Lehigh crews advanced to the finals, including a silver medal for the Men's Club Four as the Mountain Hawks wrapped up a successful weekend at the Knecht Cup. In addition, the Men's Freshmen Eight and Varsity Four advanced to the grand final while the Women's Freshmen Eight qualified for the petite final.
“We had a mixed weekend,” said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. “The men's squad definitely stepped up and was the stars of the day. Having three boats in the grand finals and one medaling is awesome. You like to see that go through a team. On the women's side, we struggled a little bit with the condition; I thought the conditions dictated a little as we raced on Saturday. Luckily, the Women's Freshmen Eight got themselves back together and put together a good race in the petite final.”
The Men's Club Four captured second place in the finals with a time of 7:07.31, ahead of Boston College in third, Penn State in fourth and Lafayette in fifth.
“It's great to see those guys be able to step up,” said Conley. “It's great to see the upperclassmen step up (the crew includes a senior, two juniors, a sophomore and a junior coxswain). Hopefully we can find some more speed so those guys can do some good things at Dad Vails.”
The Men's Varsity Four just missed medaling in the finals, coming in fourth with a time of 6:52.36, less than one second from third and two from second. The Men's Freshmen Eight also finished fourth while the Women's Freshmen Eight had a strong performance in the petite finals, coming in first with a time of 7:10.79, almost nine seconds ahead of second-place Buffalo.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action against archrival Lafayette in their annual River Cup on Saturday morning (Apr. 20).
“Lehigh-Laf is always a race the team really looks forward to. It brings together the connection with all the other teams in the department,” said Conley. “It's our rival race. We prepare for it as a very serious race. Hopefully, we have great results and continue improving on results.”
