BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team reflected on its 2013 season with its annual banquet on Saturday, December 7. The banquet consisted of a luncheon, awards presentation and a season reflection by head coach Dean Koski.
The Player of the Year award, which was presented to senior Ben Wysocki, is awarded to the student-athlete who makes the most outstanding contribution to the athletic success of the team. The defender anchored Lehigh's backfield while also assisting on offense. Wysocki finished the season with a goal and assist to rank second on the team with three points.
The Scholar-Athlete award was presented to senior Ben Borin. The award, which is voted on by team members, is presented to a player who exemplifies academic success along with strong play on the field. A finance major, Borin has tallied a 3.29 grade point average throughout his time at Lehigh and has landed on Dean's List two times during his career. Borin continuously provided a spark in Lehigh's offense during the season.
The Coaches Award, presented to the student-athlete who made a noteworthy contributions to the team in areas of attitude, improvement and leadership was awarded to freshman Conor Smith. The Sterling, Va. native was injured during his debut season with the Mountain Hawks, but made many important contributions to the team.
"When Conor found out during preseason that he wasn't going to play this fall due to a pre-existing injury, he took the news pretty hard," said head coach Dean Koski. "But within a couple of days he came to terms with it and found a way to contribute to the team by doing all the non-glamorous jobs like filling water bottles, carrying equipment, shagging balls, videotaping games and supporting his teammates.
"I never once had to ask Conor to do any of these things and I've never had a freshman manage all these things to the level that Conor did this past season," Koski continued. "It was an easy choice to give him the award."
