Kinek earns second straight Patriot League Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's basketball sophomore Kerry Kinek has been named Patriot League Player of the Week for the second straight week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. Kinek helped lead the Mountain Hawks to wins over Mount St. Mary's, Fairfield and Rhode Island last week.
Kinek is the first Patriot League player to earn the award in back-to-back weeks since former Lehigh standout Erica Prosser '11 garnered the recognition for the weeks of Feb. 7 and Feb. 14, 2011.
The Whitehall, Pa. native recorded 17 points and 7.6 rebounds per game during Lehigh's current three-game winning streak. She shot 43.9 percent (18-for-41) from the field and 68.1 percent (15-for-22) from the free throw line during the three contests. Her efforts included a team-leading 18 and 21 points against Mount St. Mary's and Fairfield, respectively.
Kinek tossed in 12 points at Rhode Island on Saturday to secure her 500th career point through just 36 games. She accomplished the milestone by hitting a jumper with 9:02 to play. Kinek is currently the Patriot League's leading scorer, averaging 19.2 points per game and holds the third best rebounding average with 8.7 per game.
The sophomore's efforts have helped Lehigh to its first 5-1 start since the 2009-10 season. That squad went on to win the Patriot League Championship and earn an NCAA Tournament berth. The Mountain Hawks have also accumulated a 3-0 road record for the first time since the 1984-85 season.
Kinek and the Mountain Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday night when they take on Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. The game will be broadcast live on 91.3 WLVR and wlvr.org with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.
