Lehigh dominates rival Lafayette 109.5-71.5 Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its lone dual meet of the season, the Lehigh women's track and field team defeated rival Lafayette 109.5-71.5 Saturday at Rauch Fieldhouse. The Mountain Hawks took first in all 10 track events while senior Alexandra Doersam broke school records in the 60-meter dash and the long jump as she sparked Lehigh to its third straight victory.
“We got some outstanding performances and Doersam's pair of wins was exactly what we needed,” said head coach Matt Utesch. “The women just rolled from there and were really unstoppable, it was great to see. Everybody rose to the occasion and it was a great team effort. I am really proud of our kids.”
 
Doersam finished the 60-meter dash in 7.84 seconds, breaking her own record of 7.89 seconds which she set last week at the Mountain Hawk Invite. Then in the long jump, Doersam won the event jumping a school record 5.74 meters, again surpassing her own record of 5.61 meters which was set last season. Doersam's long jump was also an ECAC/IC4A qualifying distance as 5.70m was the required minimum distance.

For her efforts, Doersam was named Lehigh's Female Track Athlete of the Meet.
 
In the track events, sophomore Brooke Astor won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.98 seconds. Junior Kristen Slotnick won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.88 while Doersam finished 0.08 seconds behind her in second. Lehigh then took the top three spots in the 400-meter dash, paced by freshman Halie Carter who finished with a time of 59.81 seconds, just two seconds away from breaking the school record.
 
The Mountain Hawks then took the top two spots in the 500-meter dash as juniors Alyssa Donahue and Elizabeth McManus went 1-2 respectively separated by just 0.07 seconds as Donahue crossed the finish line in 1:19.73.
 
Sophomore Jessica Kendzor won the 800-meter run with an ECAC/ICA4A qualifying time of 2:13.59, surpassing the 2:14.44 time needed to qualify.

Kendzor was named Lehigh's Female Field Athlete of the Meet.

Lehigh's dominance in the track events continued to the one mile run where the Mountain Hawks took the top two spots as junior Julia Perry won the event with a time of 5:02.55 and freshman Savanna Plombon was right behind here with a time of 5:03.78. Senior Katherine Pierce took first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:19.29, beating Lafayette's top runner by almost eight seconds.
 
Lehigh also took the top three spots in the 1,000-meter run as juniors Brittany and Lauren Pietrosh placed 1-2, respectively, separated by 0.01 seconds.
 
Lehigh won both the 4x400 and 4x800-meter relays for the clean sweep in the track events. In the 4x400, the team of Slotnick, Knapp, McManus, Carter, Donahue, Doersam and Kendzor placed first with a time of 4:00.02. And in the 4x800, the team of senior Catherine Tobiasen, junior Lauren Pietrosh, junior Kathleen Ryan, senior Alexandra Neville, senior Megan Hetzel and senior Carolyn Morse took first with a time of 9:57.87.
 
In the field events, Astor won her second event of the meet as she took first in the high jump with a distance of 1.62 meters. Sophomore Rebecca Duhamel won the shot put with a distance of 12.45 meters, just ahead of Lehigh's thrower by 0.21 meters.
 
Junior E'Lana Lemon continued her stellar season as she stayed undefeated in the weight throw, finishing with a winning distance of 17.60 meters, another ECAC/ICA4A qualifying distance.
 
Saturday's dual meet was the 22nd between Lehigh and Lafayette as the Mountain Hawks improved to 6-15-1.
 
It was also Lehigh's third straight victory as it took first last week at the 12-team Mountain Hawk Invite and the week prior, won the six-team meet at West Point.
 
The Mountain Hawks will look to keep the momentum going as they head to the New Balance Invitational at the NYC Armory on Friday, February 3rd at 10:50 a.m.
