Mountain Hawks complete competition at the ECAC/IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Lehigh track and field teams completed competition at the IC4A and ECAC Track and Field Championships on Sunday. The women's team finished 21st with 15 points, which is the highest ECAC finish they have ever had in the program's history. There were additionally four All-East performances for Lehigh on the women's side.  
 
“It is always really difficult to come back for the Patriot League Championships and compete at the ECACs and the IC4As,” said Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch. “The girls did a great job though of putting in a full effort and battling. Overall it was a great weekend for us.”
 
Brooke Astor represented Lehigh in the women's heptathlon. She finished in seventh place overall with 4323 points in the event, to earn All-East honors. Astor had a notable finish in the 800 meter run of the heptathlon, as she finished in first place with a time of 2:25.62. She also had a fourth place finish in the javelin throw, recording a distance of 28.44 meters. She continued her success in the running events, as she finished third in the 200 meter dash (26.21) and sixth in the 100 meter hurdles.
 
Katherine Pierce, who was a Patriot League Champion last weekend in the 10,000 meter run and most recently was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, had a strong showing for Lehigh in the same event at ECACs. Pierce finished in an impressive second place with a time of 35:55.98 to earn All-East honors. In the women's hammer throw, Emily Settle, who made second team All-Patriot League, finished second in her flight and eighth overall with a distance of 54.33 meters to also earn an All-East performance. E'lana Lemon additionally finished 10th at 52.87 meters.
 
Lehigh's 4x800 relay team of Alex Neville, Julia Perry, Lauren Pietrosh and Jessica Kendzor finished strongly in fourth place, earning a time of 8:59 in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals. Then in the Sunday finals, the team finished fifth at 8:58.53. This was the best time ever for this group and it also ranks third in school history. All four Mountain Hawks, who earned All-East honors, will be back next year and will look to make even greater strides.
 
On the men's side, Kyle Forrest and Alex Maurer represented Lehigh in the men's decathlon. Forrest finished in 11th place in the event for the Mountain Hawks. Maurer had a strong finish in the long jump of the decathlon, as he placed fourth with a distance of 6.54 meters. Forrest was dominant in the 1500 meter run of the decathlon, as he finished in first with a time of 4:27.05. Forrest had a third place finish in the high jump of the decathlon, beating his result of 1.89 meters at the Patriot League Championships last weekend by .04 meters. Forrest also placed third in the 400 meter run with a time of 50.16 seconds.
 
The announcement for the qualifiers for NCAA Regionals is expected to be announced on Tuesday.
