BETHLEHEM, Pa.-Former Mountain Hawks pitcher Kyle Collina and catcher Matt McBride were recently back in action together as teammates on the Lake County (Ohio) Captains, the Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
Collina made his debut for the Captains in an unusual fashion.
“[He] was told Sunday he was going to Lake County,” said Lehigh coach Sean Leary, “then with virtually no sleep he arrived in North Carolina for the game and was told ‘you’re starting.’”
The
McBride did his best at the plate to help Collina out, going 3 for 5 with an RBI, and finishing a homerun shy of the cycle. The Bethlehem native improved his batting average to .286 in 97 games for the Captains, and continues to be one of the best young prospects in the Indians system.
Before getting the call-up, Collina pitched in ten games for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, of the New York-Penn League. He had 21 strikeouts in 17.1 innings and opponents were only hitting .185 against him.
